"One discovers the light in darkness.

That is what darkness is for.

But everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light.

It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere,

to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light." - James Baldwin

After working with trauma survivors and their families for over 10 years, the area of supporting survivors has become my passion. I recognize that trauma survivors often feel lingering symptoms long after the trauma has ended. Often the mind-body connection is disrupted in significant and lasting ways. Many people report their relational, attentional, or emotional systems feel the disruption in a pronounced way.

I obtained most of my trauma training from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. I completed my Level I training, titled: Affect Dysregulation, Survival Defenses, and Traumatic Memory, in 2014 after completing an 80 hours course including both experimental and didactic modalities. I am currently enrolled in the Level II training, a 120 hour training, titled: Emotional Processing, Meaning Making, and Attachment Repair.

These trainings are a part of my ongoing dedication and commitment to my clients healing journeys. Current neuroscience research reinforces an integrated approach to work with trauma by understanding that trauma disrupts our cognitions, emotions, and the body's sensorimotor processing - that is how we hold and process distress in our bodies. All the while, the complexities of relational attachment and the ever complex ways the body stores and processes memories, are at play. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy honors the wisdom of the body, a deliberately slow pace for therapy, a non violent approach and an organic unfolding that is unique to each person's growth and honors the beautiful complexities of our lives.

Trauma often disrupts our sense of purpose, minimizes our sense of hope, confuses our perceptions, disrupts our sense of safety in our own bodies and our sense of safety in our world, challenges the health and integrity of our relationships, and often rocks our entire identity. These symptoms can emerge in our world long after the painful events occurred. I resoundingly understood that after all this training, lasting change, growth, and healing is possible.
